Family-owned fast-food restaurants shaped L.A.'s Googie architecture, designed to attract drivers with bold colors, futuristic styles and oversized signage. The A-frame shape is employed reminiscent of the early and humble start of the fast-food industry creating an inviting and recognizable building form. A curved corner with transparent windows softens the structure for pedestrians, balancing its imposing look from the road while referencing L.A.’s unique architectural legacy through a contemporary lens. Nefer Fernandez, as reform collective’s Studio Director, was part of the architecture team that executed the design and construction.
