Ivanhoe vista house

The Ivanhoe Vista House extends an existing residence, providing new views of Silver Lake's Ivanhoe Reservoir and designing volumes to respond to site conditions. A rectangular elevation rises above the street toward views of the reservoir before tapering into a series of gabled forms situated around and saving a wonderful olive tree. The addition alternates formal arrangements to address the site's characteristics and references historic architecture; its gabled profile resembles a former wood-clad structure that once covered Ivanhoe Reservoir around 1930. The upper level of the two-story addition contains a primary bedroom suite and living area, set above a concrete base that includes an art studio garage and a small accessory unit. In plan, perimeter walls shift to accommodate the existing house, the olive tree, and the triangular lot, while the living and dining areas feature staggered windows facing the yard and highlighting the olive tree. Sunlight casts varying shadows through the large windows, offering changing views of the tree, yard, lake, and the historical wood-clad reservoir structure. Nefer Fernandez, as a designer, was part of the Formation Association team that executed the house design.
