Mavis House
This interior renovation is dedicated to highlighting and harmonizing the architectural relationship between the original 1930s residence and a 1960s extension designed by Kemper Nomland. The project carefully preserves distinctive features such as exposed ceiling joists and narrow timber casings, while thoughtfully improving transitions throughout the home. New millwork provides integrated storage within existing niches, and custom lighting establishes unity across formerly disconnected areas. A subdued, natural material palette—including plaster, white oak, and polished concrete—anchors the overall design. Discreet adjustments to thresholds and sightlines achieve a sense of continuity, respecting the home's layered history while enhancing both its aesthetics and functionality. Nefer Fernandez, as reform collective’s Studio Director, was part of the architecture team that executed the design and construction.
